Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.

Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!

Something New

James Beard Foundation: Seven area establishments and individuals were announced this morning as James Beard Foundation Award nominees! Congratulations to the talented minds behind all nominated spots. We’re not at all surprised but excited that they are receiving this regional and national recognition!

Dolce Bakery: Here’s an at-home date night or Galentine’s idea that will be as sweet as your loved one. Dolce Bakery in Prairie Village is offering a cake decorating kit for two. For $28.50, each kit comes with a 4” cake plus two tip-less bags of cream cheese icing and Lover sprinkles. The cake flavor options include Chocolate Blackout, Vanilla Cream, and Red Velvet.

Betty Rae’s Ice Cream: Nothing says celebration like sprinkles. In honor of the Chiefs’ victory over the Buffalo Bills and the upcoming AFC Championship game, Betty Rae’s has released Chiefscake, a cream cheese ice cream (Andy Reid’s favorite flavor) with yellow cake and red, yellow, and white sprinkles. The limited edition treat is available at all three locations, plus Cosentino Price Choppers and Shatto Home Delivery. Look for the name “Playoffs Golden Confetti Cake”.

Boulevard Brewing Co.: Boulevard’s newest Quirk Hard Seltzer release is available in stores starting this week. Four new flavors are based on fruity sodas, including Ginger Grape Fizz, Clementine Cream Pop, Lemon Thyme Limeade, and Black Cherry Vanilla. As usual with seltzer products, the name is more of a suggestion than a full-on, syrupy flavor. I picked up a variety pack at the Boulevard Rec Deck store yesterday and may have to do a detailed review of each flavor…

Opening

Whole Harvest Kitchen: What many people may recognize as a food delivery service, Whole Harvest has opened Whole Harvest Kitchen in Leawood. The parent company and meal delivery service, Whole Harvest, is based in Colorado but chose Kansas City for its flagship restaurant. It is open now from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. every day. All menu items at Whole Harvest Kitchen are made from whole foods, are plant-based and oil-free, and are made from scratch daily by Executive Chef Will Harris and his team.

Atomic Cowboy: Atomic Cowboy–home to Denver Biscuit Co. and Fat Sully’s Pizza–has opened a second KC location in Overland Park. The multi-menu spot is known for towering biscuit sandwiches, giant NY-style pizzas, and smash burgers. It is open every day of the week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night.

January 27

Fuego Cantina: In West Bottoms, Fuego invites you to their monthly interactive, three-course, chef-led dining experience with Owner and Chef Kandi Kerns. This meal event is $75 and features a spontaneous new menu each time. It runs from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. which leaves plenty of time for an afternoon stroll through the West Bottoms. I suggest visiting West Bottoms Plant Co. across the street or West Bottoms Whiskey Co.

January 28

Mitch e Amaro: North KC’s cocktail supply store and bar, Mitch e Amaro, is hosting The Moon Bar for an “Asian Bar x American Bar Collaboration”. From 6 – 11 p.m., Moon Bar will serve fine cocktails and snacks. No reservations or tickets are required.

January 29

Cliff’s Taphouse: Starting at 6 p.m., Cliff’s Taphouse in midtown is hosting a ticketed Vegan Wine Dinner. Five vegan courses, like chestnut gnocchi and bananas foster baklava, will be paired with wine specifically chosen to enhance each dish. Tickets are $70.

City Barrel Brewing Company: Starting today, City Barrel in Crossroads is serving breakfast for dinner through February 1. Stop by between 3 – 9 p.m. for special menu items like chicken and waffles, crab benedict, and chilaquiles, plus their versions of bloody marys and mimosas. Reservations are recommended but not required.

Plan Ahead

The Rino:  On February 1, The Rino in North KC is hosting “Journey Through Scotland: A Scotch Whisky Tasting with Ethan Bunce” at 7 p.m.. $25 tickets include five scotch samples and a cocktail, plus education on the history and artistry of scotch whisky from the Highlands to Campbeltown.
