KC Sipps: Two drink-centered openings, 10 years of Heirloom Bakery & Hearth, and a beerfest
This week's Kansas City restaurant news.
Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.
That’s where I come in.
I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!
Opening
Jade Jaguar: The business team behind The Mercury Room, Verdigris, and The Monarch Bar has partnered with local cocktail masters Manny Gomez and Seth Goldwasser to open Jade Jaguar. Replacing Bar Medici in Crossroads, Jade Jaguar gets a permanent home after putting on pop-ups are area bars and restaurants. The new agave bar opens on October 10, starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Mexican Consulate at 5:50 p.m.
Fresh Cut Smoothies: Mass St. has a fresh new tenant. Fresh Cut Smoothies is now open in Lawrence, and former Pitch writer Wulfe Wulfemeyer profiled the spot while in progress, and its owner, Daniel Luckey. The smoothie shop has reliable hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily.
Closing
Sauced: Sauced, the small burger joint in Crossroads, has announced closure. In a series of videos on Instagram, owner Steven Blakley shared that they’ve “been kicked out” and “outgrown the space.” Cryptic nods to future restaurant plans were teased, but as of now, Sauced at the location it first opened at in 2020 has closed.
Boho Brewing: Parkville’s Boho Brewing has closed. Co-owner Robert Mann directed supporters to other local breweries in a video on Facebook, saying, “Take your passion and your dollars and go support all the other breweries in town. Don’t let another one go dark.”
October 10
Heirloom Bakery & Hearth: To celebrate 10 years of serving Brookside, Heirloom is throwing a pastry palooza all weekend! The fun kicks off on Friday afternoon with outdoor food and a movie, then continues with live music, specials, wine tastings, and more all weekend. Congrats on this major milestone!
PH Coffee: The Pendleton Heights cafe has brought back its live production of Amuck Amuck Amuck, a Hocus Pocus-inspired production. This ticketed event happens for only seven select nights, and tickets start at around $30. Cocktails, mocktails, and food will be available for purchase. The show features interactive gameplay and live performances.
October 11
The Littlest Bake Shop: The Littlest Bake Shop is luring you to do something healthy for yourself. From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., a walk-up mammography bus will be on site for screenings. Afterward, treat yourself for your responsible choice with one (or more) of the signature goodies from the vegan and gluten-free bakeshop!
SERV: SERV, the Overland Park pickleball spot that’s much more than a pickleball spot, is hosting a Beer Fest from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include tastings of 18 different brews, plus food-truck-inspired eats.
Westport: The 3rd Annual Westport Wine Walk returns this weekend. Bop around to twelve bars/restaurants for wine, and enjoy discounts at even more Westport spots! Tickets are $35, and the first 50 people to check in will receive exclusive coupons and giveaways. The forecast looks nice and mild, perfect for breaking out the fall boots for this self-paced wine tour.
