This week's Kansas City restaurant news.

Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Starting this week, lunch is now served at SERV. The Overland Park pickleball joint is not just for recreation, but has four food concepts in the outdoor food hall and three bars throughout the property. On a nice day, the patio and outdoor space are not to be overlooked for a meal or casual drink with friends.

The Pitch Sandwich Week kicks off on Monday, March 23! We’ve got a thorough lineup for you this year, with 16 locations offering a half-price sandwich! From a torta Cubana in Overland Park to a vegan sloppy joe in Westside, there’s bound to be something worth your time.

Opening

Fluffy Fresh Donuts: The donut shop on Johnson Drive reopened today under new, local ownership. It serves fresh donuts from 5 – 10 a.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays, and is cash-only for at least the next week. Be sure to stop by The Book Club afterwards.

Closing

Geo’s Cafe: The Red Bridge location of Geo’s Cafe has closed. The Olathe location of the coffee, matcha, pastry, and sandwich shop remains open.

March 19

XO Hifi Lounge: Denver-based Kaedama Ramen will be at XO in the Westside neighborhood from March 19 – 21. From 5 – 10 p.m. (or when supply runs out), Kaedama will offer five dishes to complement the craft cocktails at XO. The bar is always first-come, first-served, so no reservations are available for this event.

March 21

1888 Coffee: 1888 Coffee sees your “pup cup” and raises: Pups on the Patio day! Starting at 1:30 p.m., you’re invited to bring your furry friend to join you at the Hyde Park cafe. An rsvp is appreciated so they can prep enough treats and goodies for the dogs.

Happy Apple Cafe: Okay, if you fondly remember the plant-based cafe on Troost, don’t get too excited–this is a pop-up from the chef/owner, not a new restaurant announcement! But Happy Apple Cafe will be at Tintoretta Tattoo Studio/Buôn Bán Mercantile along with Flowstate Coffee from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Kendall of Happy Apple Cafe will serve freak’d fries, nachurritos, and some sweet treats.

Plan Ahead

Room 39: Room 39 is hosting a special wine dinner with Luli Wines and Master Sommelier Sara Floyd on March 24. Tickets are $125 and include five wines paired with four courses, such as beet-cured salmon with roe, oxtail agnolotti, whole branzino, and more. Seating is limited and expected to sell out.

Bamboo Penny’s: On March 25, Chef Penny Mufuka invites you to a dinner that features the flavors of Thailand–both street food and comfort foods, paired with cocktails from Anna Bordon. The set menu features dishes such as khai jaio, kaeng see-krohng-neua or curry-braised short ribs, mango cream pie, and much more. Tickets are $75, which includes drinks and gratuity.
