KC Sipps: Sandwich Week is underway, plus Hood Dude Food Reviews invites us to Pound Town
This week's Kansas City restaurant news.
Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.
That’s where I come in.
I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!
Something New
News Bites: The Pitch Sandwich Week is underway! We’ve got a thorough lineup for you this year, with a variety of cuisines and locations offering a half-price sandwich! From a torta Cubana in Overland Park to a vegan sloppy joe in Westside, there’s bound to be something worth your time at the 15+ locations.
Opening
Cafe Equinox: Inside Family Tree Nursery in Overland Park, Cafe Equinox now has a permanent cafe! Any of the three Cafe Equinox locations (all in a Family Tree Nursery) are some of my favorite hidden gems or unexpected spots in the metro. The cafe serves Heirloom Bakery and Hearth baked goods and Thou Mayest coffee, operating daily within limited hours. Additional seating will be available at this updated location early this summer.
March 26
Boulevard Tours & Rec: The official Planet Comicon pre-party is happening at Boulevard from 4 – 8 p.m. The festivities include a special limited release of Space Camper, Fundamental Evil, ticket giveaways, activations, and more. Cosplay is encouraged, and the event is free and open to the public.
March 27
Oddly Correct Coffee: Starting at 12 p.m., Oddly Correct will host Chef Heramarie for a fundraiser for AIRRKC. Focaccia bread and sandwiches will be available for purchase at the coffee shop, and 100% of the proceeds from those will be donated to Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation KC.
March 28
Cinder Block Brewery: North KC’s Cinder Block Brewery is throwing a spring cider fest. Starting at 3 p.m., guests can purchase a flight to try some experimental cider flavors such as margarita, salted caramel lavender, PB&J, and more, and then vote for a favorite. The event also features a giveaway, live music, and Bay Boy sandwiches on site.
March 29
Vine Street Brewing: A Pitch-perfect collaboration for the ages! Vine Street Brewing has tapped Glenn Robinson, whom you may know as The Epitome or Hood Dude Food Reviews, to help create their latest release. “Pound Town” is the latest brew, which is a smoothie bowl sour inspired by Robinson. A release party for the new beer runs from 2 – 6 p.m., with a DJ and live performances.
Plan Ahead
The Museum of Kansas City: On April 12, Chef David Ruiz will be at The Museum of Kansas City, presenting “A High Desert Table.” This multi-course dinner is inspired by the Indigenous foods and plants of New Mexico and the greater Southwest. Expect striking plating and fresh flavors. The meal runs from 1 – 4 p.m. and tickets are $75.
