KC Sipps: News from Café Corazón, The Campground, Andy’s, and Bar Medici
This week's Kansas City restaurant news.
Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.
That’s where I come in.
I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!
Something New
Atelier Co.: Laura Clark, an experienced barista in KC, has launched a new line of syrups. They are available now for $15 per bottle, and feature flavors like salted vanilla, sweater weather, and cocoa noir. However, caramel apple and Turkish syrup with cardamom are my two favorites. I’d recommend them for lattes, cocktails, and mocktails.
Café Corazón: Café Corazón and Illicit have teamed up for a special new sweet. Horchata Latte and Dulce de Leche Latte caramels are available now–a standard caramel version at Cafe Corazon and a cannabis-infused 21+ version at From The Earth dispensaries.
Andy’s Frozen Custard: Missouri-based frozen custard chain Andy’s recently released new flavors for the winter season. I stopped by one of the Overland Park locations yesterday to try them, and the Reindeer Tracks was an instant fave. I’ll always opt for chocolate, but add in some peppermint and then Oreo chunks… heaven. I skipped the Andy Nogg shake but happily tried the Santa Brownie Jackhammer to enjoy the hot fudge core. That one also had peppermint pieces. If peppermint isn’t your thing, the seasonal apple pie sundae and concrete will be on the menu through January.
Today’s Tip
A niche problem now has a solution. Occasionally, I have attempted to buy a gift card to a small local restaurant or cafe, but they don’t offer gift cards. They just haven’t invested in that technology. It’s a bummer that they lose out on business, because sometimes a gift card (versus just handing the recipient cash) is the best way to go. Enter: Gift Card Market. It just launched nationwide, but it was founded here in KC. In fact, they are the presenting sponsor of 2025 Restaurant Week. Explore that site first before picking up a generic Visa gift card.
December 5
The Campground: The fifth annual Christkindlmarkt returns to The Campground this weekend only, now through Sunday. This festive experience is free to attend and features food and drink specials, fire pits, and local vendors and makers. Nurturing with Nature will be there–I featured them in my foodie gift guide!
December 7
Oh Hey, Agave!: Are you an agave fan? This evening event, with two sessions, may be right up your alley. Each $80 ticket for the Oh Hey, Agave! event includes agave tastings, two cocktails, a tasting glass, small bites from Yoli Tortilleria, dessert and coffee from Café Corazón, a takeaway gift bag, and a raffle ticket. The one-night event is held at No Vacancy in Crossroads and features over 20 agave expressions.
Big Rip Brewing Company: Krampusnacht Mecabre Market has returned to Big Rip in North Kansas City. From 1 – 4 p.m., the market features free photos with Krampus, drink specials, Hawg Jaw BBQ, and 15 unique vendors.
December 9
Westport Cafe: Two local icons are coming together for one night of French and Italian inspiration. Bar Medici is partnering with Westport Cafe for a menu that benefits Nourish KC, which helps provide nutritious meals to families in need across KC. From 6 – 10 p.m., the walk-in-only service at Westport Cafe will offer fried olives, French onion gnocchi, pistachio gelato, and more.
Plan Ahead
Splitlog Coffee: Strawberry Hill’s Splitlog Coffee is playing host to a Sober Holiday Sip and Social on December 15. Tickets are $12 and feature mocktails, raffle prizes, and chances to meet Kat of No Wine in the Carpool Line and Alix of Sober City Movement.
