Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Bisou, the chic Westside coffee shop, is introducing extended weekend hours starting March 22. Complete with boozy menu additions, Bisou diners can enjoy scratch-made food and bevvies until 8 p.m., making the most of their Parisian patio. And for a patio dinner further south, KC Craft Ramen in Overland Park has opened its brand new covered patio.

Opening

Hank’s Garage & Grill: Downtown Shawnee is growing, one delish new concept at a time! Hank’s Garage & Grill is now open and is celebrating the official grand opening on March 20. Stop by between 11 a.m. – midnight to try one of the seven draft beers, cocktails, or the unique menu. Yes, truly unique like tempura-battered pork tenderloin sandwich and Spam fries with banana ketchup. Check out Jordan Baranowski’s pre-opening insights and my taste of the flagship beer.

Panther’s Place: The elusive but cool Westside bar, Panther’s Place, is set to open for the season this Saturday. The only way to catch their open hours and dates is by following along on Instagram. It is outdoorsy, vine-draped, and often closed for private events.

The Yard Milkshake Bar: I don’t often mention national chains, but I have a reason for this inclusion. New to the Power & Light area is The Yard Milkshake Bar near Chipotle and Modern Market Eatery. I’ve had this in Austin, and honestly, I’m not a big fan of the over-the-top milkshake treats. They’re fun, but I have a curmudgeonly stance that it simply has too much going on. However, I am a fan of a dedicated sweet-treat stop downtown, and an option in the area for families/all ages. It is open now but holding grand opening celebrations this weekend, such as a Scavenger Hunt on March 22.

Murmuration Eatery & Cocktail Bar: The sister restaurant to City Market Coffee that we profiled in November is now open! Murmuration is an extension of City Market Coffee in, you guessed it, City Market. The new spot is open seven days a week, featuring cocktails, breakfast and lunch foods, and grab-and-go items. The unique tiramisu blue Russian mocktail looks like a spirited way to kick off a KC Current match day if you’re making your way from City Market to CPKC Stadium as many do!

Closing

Enchanté: The midtown Main Street bakery, and sister restaurant to Tailleur and Cheval, has closed. Well, closed to the public. The bakery will continue with custom and wholesale orders, but the cafe and walk-in goodies are no longer available.

March 23

Luca Bagel: Growing bagel pop-up, Luca Bagel, will be at Friction Beer Co. in downtown Shawnee at noon. One of the brothers of Providence Pizza, Luke Slavatore, is also behind the New Jersey-style bagels. While he’s operated via pop-up for a few years, a brick-and-mortar location is coming soon to Brookside, specifically where Mattie’s Foods was. Our staff has these often and gravitates toward the plain and jalapeno.

March 24

Taco Naco: A Monday night dinner to remember! The Westport location of Taco Naco is hosting a “Crafted by HER” dinner featuring local culinary talent Chef Fernanda Reyes, Diana Condori of Condor’s Cove and Fern Bar, and Brooke Silvey of Tannin. The five-course dinner and cocktail pairing leans into both Women’s History Month and National Cocktail Day. The dinner is for ages 21+, and tickets are $75.

Blanc Champagne Bar: Calling all Bachelor fans! Catch the finale in style with your besties at Blanc. Seatings start at 7:30, and each $40 ticket includes two bubbly cocktails and small bites. PJs are encouraged but not required for this slumber party-themed event.

Plan ahead:

Lidia’s: Sure, you could dine at Lidia’s iconic KC restaurant, or, you could dine with Lidia herself. On April 6, Lidia’s and Chef Lidia Bastianich are partnering with Les Dames d’Escoffier Kansas City–a nonprofit dedicated to advancing and supporting women in food, beverage, and hospitality–for a special event. The multi-course dinner starts at $135, and includes hearing from Chef Lidia.
