Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!
Something New
Prefix Coffee: At the Lightwell location in downtown Kansas City, Prefix is giving free drip coffee on Fridays through November. No purchase is necessary, and their Friday hours are 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Casual Animal Brewing: Now through the end of the year, $2 from every pint of the Strawberry Milkshake IPA goes to Kanbe’s Markets. This is part of Casual Animal’s Local Motive program for giving back.
Black Drip Coffee: A new local canned coffee option is now available. Black Drip Renegade Cold Brew is available for purchase at District Biskuits, The Prospect, and Soiree Steak & Oyster House.
New Menus: Noka in Martini Corner now offers lunch from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Westport Cafe welcomed a new fall menu with a lobster roll, French onion soup focaccia, and more. Scratch Gourmet Kitchen in Prairie Village recently introduced weekly chef’s specials and a happy hour. Two other restaurants that opened their doors only this year, Bacaro Primo and Barbacoa, have also introduced new menus.
(Re)opening
Providence New American Kitchen: Inside the historic Hilton President Hotel in the Power and Light District, Providence New American Kitchen has reopened after a couple years of closure. Providence is a locally-owned, full-service American restaurant featuring locally sourced ingredients for dishes like pork chops with caramelized apples and onions, butternut squash gnocchi, and more. It is open now for dinner service on Tuesdays through Sundays, 5 – 9 p.m.
Closing
d’Bronx: The Mission location of d’Bronx Authentic Deli and Pizzeria has closed. The Overland Park location remains open.
November 3
misc.: North KC’s misc. reopens for a few evenings this month. Awkward Family Thanksgiving offers cocktails based on the colorful characters that may gather around the holiday table. I’d consider myself a blend of Mama Linda and Cousin David, according to their menu.
November 4
Caffeine Crawl: Channel your inner Gilmore and try out the 13th annual Caffeine Crawl! Learn from roasters or baristas and sample drinks at 4-5 coffee shops on a self-driving tour. Participants can select a route based on neighborhood (Parkville/Strawberry Hill, Lee’s Summit, etc.) over 2-3 hours. Options are also available for Sunday, November 5.
Wicked Wine Walk: Enjoy the predicted warmer weather this weekend at the Power and Light District. The Wicked Wine Walk general admission tickets start at $40 and kicks off at 3 p.m. Participating venues include Johnny’s Tavern, Johnnie’s Jazz Bar, Sinkers Lounge, BRGR Kitchen, Bristol, Leinenkugel’s, and No Other Pub, with an after-party at Shark Bar.
Vignettes: Seamlessly transitioning from Halloween to Christmas, Vignettes in North Kansas City has transformed into A Pop Up Before Christmas. Reservations are encouraged for this pop-up where all ages are welcome Sunday through Thursday and open to exclusively 21+ Friday and Saturday. Vignettes focuses on visually interesting cocktails and also offers treats, games, live music, and special events.
November 5
Chiefs Watch Parties: Even though the football game is broadcasting from Germany at 8:30 a.m. CST (and don’t forget the time change!) there are plenty of places opening early. Check out my full list here.
Café Cà Phê: At the 12th Street Post location in West Bottoms, Café Cà Phê is hosting a cup sleeve event. This is in honor of the birthday of K-Pop star, Momo, and will run from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Visit for an exclusive cup sleeve and drink celebrating Momo, plus vendors and photo-ops.
November 6
Lucky Seb’s: Known for their dumplings, Lucky Seb’s in Lawrence is hosting a collaboration dinner. Chef Will Soo of Lucky Seb’s is partnering with Chef TK Peterson of Merchant’s Pub and Plate for a four-course dinner with beverage pairings. The few remaining tickets cost $90.
Big Mood Natural Wines: More dumplings, but this time in Crossroads. Big Mood is hosting Chef Hanzhou Piao who is bringing dumplings to complement wine selections, starting at 6 p.m. until sold out.
Plan Ahead
Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar: Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar in Overland Park is hosting winemaker Lawrence Lohr for a tasting of their finest California wines. Tickets are $55 for this evening event on November 7.
Kata Nori: On November 8, Kata Nori in Crossroads is celebrating its grand opening with prizes and music by DJ Ashton Martin. The ceremony will be from 4 – 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 5 p.m. for walk-ins and reservations.
