Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.

Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!

Something New

Tiki Taco: Tiki Taco’s three locations now serve tamales from The Tamale Kitchen. Pork and chicken tamales are available, and each sale supports The Tamale Kitchen’s mission of filling employment gaps for women in the Northeast Kansas City community. P.S. Tiki Taco just launched a loyalty club for frequent fans.

Yanaka Food: Kuda Munyawiri of Porai Real Fruit Ice Cream is making a smart transition for fall and winter and is now offering a Burnt Basque Cheesecake for delivery. As expected, he’s adding the unexpected. The cheesecake itself is great–I served it at a fall-themed party this week–and can be refrigerated for up to a week. Inside the lovely packaging (literally wrapped with a bow) is a set of four accompaniments to jazz up the dessert. My favorite was the fig & red wine compote, but the most adventurous was the chili oil crunch!

Opening

Jungalow: Jungalow, the newest concept from Westport Bars, is now open. The lush bar interior was designed by Jenna Kaufman Interior Designs and features natural textures, cozy seating, and a chic tropical flair. To match the late-night vibe people expect of Westport, the bar is open until 3 a.m.

TC’s Fully Loaded: The popular baked potato truck will be opening a brick-and-mortar spot this weekend! TC’s Fully Loaded has been working on a permanent spot in Rosedale on Southwest Blvd. The grand opening celebration will be on October 20 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., so come out to show your support for the new spot.

October 17

BKS Artisan Ales: Congratulations on seven years, BKS! Starting a weekend of festivities, Junkyard Dog food truck will be at BKS from 4 – 8 p.m. Continuing the celebration, additional food trucks and vendors will be on-site from 1 – 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday as well. Multiple new beer releases will be available through the weekend.

October 18

Kinship Cafe: Strawberry Hill’s Kinship Cafe is throwing a three-year anniversary celebration by collaborating with Buck Tui. From 5 – 9 p.m., Buck Tui will be slinging ribs, fries, and crab rangoons alongside Kinship’s drink specials. Other vendors will be on-site, and it also happens to be the final Third Friday Artwalk of the year in the neighborhood.

Blip Roasters: Blip Roasters in West Bottoms is also celebrating a milestone this weekend–ten years! Ten years of roasting, revving, and serving up a variety of beverages as well as cool biker vibes. The fun starts with cocktails and a Fortunati Pizza pop-up from 6 – 8 p.m. On Saturday, stop by for a vendor market from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and the biggest party is on Sunday. From 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Blip will feature a bike show, live music and art, kids activities, and specials.

The Restaurant at 1900: Tonight, The Restaurant at 1900 kicks off a special weekend with acclaimed chef and restauranteur Gabrielle Hamilton. A ticketed dinner starts the celebrations of food and learning, followed by a talk on Saturday and a party afterward. Tickets are still available but likely to sell out.

October 19

Mr. D’s Donuts: Shawnee, the famed Cafe Cà Phê is coming to you! The Cafe Cà Phê coffee cart will be at Mr. D’s Donuts from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the 75th Street location. If the baristas are offering their seasonal menu, I must recommend the Pear Tree Crunch Latte. I’ve already ordered it twice this month!

Taylor Elizabeth Cake Shop: The Crossroads cakery has two weekends of fun planned, and this one is all about the kiddos. Starting at 3 p.m., kids (with an advance ticket) can enjoy cupcake and cookie decorating, drinks and snacks, crafts, a costume parade, and a goodie bag. After the kids have had their fun, plan a ghouls’ day out next weekend for cake decorating and sushi.

October 20

Rochester Brewing and Roasting Company: This may be the perfect Halloween-themed event. Hear me out. Locally-made coffee and beer at your fingertips. A pumpkin to carve that has already been gutted. All you have to do is enjoy yourself and do the fun part! Get your $20 ticket in advance and pop in for the fun between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The ticket includes the pumpkin, carving supplies, and one drink. This is exclusively at the Crossroads location.

Plan Ahead

Vine Street Brewing: October 25 – 26 is the first Hip Hops Hooray! Beer Fest at Vine Street Brewing. Tickets are available now for a variety of events, such as a Halloween-themed night with a concert from Brass & Boujee, a panel, beer tastings, live entertainment, activities, and much more. Tickets start at $20.

J. Rieger & Co.: Terror at Electric Park returns to J. Rieger & Co. on October 26 for another twisted circus Halloween bash. This year, the adult-size ball pit is back, but now the tickets–even GA–are all-inclusive for food and drink. Additional upgrades include access to a silent disco, tattoos, reserved seating, and more. The costumes and costume contest is no joke here, so bring your A-game!
