KC Sipps: A new local soju, plus spicy events this weekend
Your Kansas City dining guide.
Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.
Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!
Something new
Chingu: Chingu, the Korean restaurant in Westport, has partnered with Mean Mule Distilling Co to produce a signature spirit. Chingu Soju, a rice-based, sweet and floral spirit, has an ABV of 40%. A limited release of Chingu Soju will soon be available at retailers around Kansas City, first available at Chingu Westport on April 2nd.
Opening
Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill: The all-you-can-eat Mongolian BBQ and Chinese restaurant has reopened on West 39th Street! It is open now on Tuesdays through Mondays.
March 29
Bay Boy Specialty Sandwiches: Starting at 10:30 a.m. today, Bay Boy in West Plaza is offering limited-time Lobster Rolls. As with all Bay Boy sammies, this will be on their iconic fresh-baked Dutch crunch bread. If you haven’t tried one of these yet, go for the lobster roll or The Gobbler.
Chivos Food Truck: Chivos will pop up at Third Place Lounge in West Crossroads from 6 – 10 p.m. The small menu of rich burgers and sandwiches is a great complement to the cocktails and non-alcoholic options at Third Place.
Le Lounge: Le Lounge, the pop-up bar and lounge experience at No Vacancy hotel in Crossroads is turning two! They’re throwing a party to celebrate, and tickets are $15 in advance. I expect this to sell out. They will have the courtyard open, with DJs, bars, and Casa Del Hotdog spread throughout the space.
March 30
Cinder Block Brewery: Help manifest some true spring weather with a Spring Cider Fest. In North KC, visit Cinder Block between 3 – 11 p.m. for cider, live music, kids activities, and food from Junkyard Dogs. Even cast a vote for your favorite cider flavor for a chance to win two cases of cider.
Hamburger Mary’s: Spice up your life, or at least your Saturday, with a Spice Girls themed dragtacular at Midtown’s Hamburger Mary’s! Tickets are $20 for admission to the show, with food and beverages available for purchase. Say you’ll be there.
April 1
John’s Big Deck: No foolin’, John’s Big Deck in downtown KC is throwing a HOT party to honor the service women and men who helped save the establishment from a fire one year ago. Stop by for prizes and giveaways, discounts, and more.
Jasper’s Restaurant: Wow, 70 years of Jasper’s! Congratulations. You can join in on the fun all month, but tonight from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. they are throwing it back to 1954 with a very special menu. The dinner starts at $70 and reservations are highly recommended.
Plan Ahead
Hera Community: On Wednesday, April 3, Hera is hosting a tea workshop and tea lounge at In the Lowest Ferns in West Bottoms. With a mission of bridging the ancient and the modern, Hera is known for creating warm and welcoming events. Tickets start at $20 and include access to all-inclusive tea access and a vinyl DJ set by Marvin Gardens.
