Your Kansas City dining guide.
Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.
Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!
Something New
Kin Seltzer: Kansas City’s hard seltzer brand, Kin Seltzer has released a new flavor. The new canned beverage flavor is Pressure: Strawberry Lemonade. It is available now at Border Brewing Co and The Black Pantry, plus at restaurants like District Biskuits, Room 39, Gilhouly’s Irish Tavern, and more. An official launch party will be held on March 23 from 5 – 10 p.m. at Border Brewing Co. in East Crossroads.
Plate Italiano Moderno: Plate in Leawood is celebrating two years at the Park Place location. They invite you to enjoy anniversary specials all week for lunch and dinner, but I’m partial to their brunch menu. If you’re a regular, be sure to ask about the two-tiered VIP program.
Opening
Iron District: Though some of the restaurants and businesses housed here have kept their doors–or, order windows–open, North Kansas City’s Iron District officially opens for the year on March 16. While it’s quick and easy to order ahead and pick up your food to go, this is a great spot to spend a couple of hours. Grab a drink, then dinner, and finish with dessert while taking in free live music or playing yard games.
March 14
Vine Street Brewing: Tonight, Vine Street Brewing Co. is hosting a Women of Craft Beer event in honor of Women’s History Month. From 6 – 7:30 p.m., stop by the brewery to learn from Annie McGinnis, Dez Jones, and more. Woman-owned GoChew food truck will be there serving Korean-inspired burgers. The event is free and does not require a ticket or reservation.
March 16
Cinder Block Brewery: North KC’s Snake Saturday celebrations wouldn’t be complete without green beer and drink specials. The taproom opens at 9 a.m., and Bay Boy will pop up to serve sandwiches from 12 – 3 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge which includes live music from 12 – 3 p.m.
Taylor Elizabeth Cake Shop: The newest sweet shop in Crossroads, Taylor Elizabeth Cake Shop, is hosting a Lucky Girl Social open house from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. In addition to treats from the host, there will also be a cocktail bar pop-up, flower bouquet bar, custom lip-gloss station, charm bracelet station, and more.
Kansas City Current home opener events
DoubleTap in River Market has a special KC Current cocktail for $6 on Saturday, plus a shuttle to the nearby stadium and a watch party for those without tickets to the game. Char Bar’s Westport location and Gaels Public House and Sports are hosting watch parties.
Enzo in City Market will be one of many places open early to celebrate with drink specials to “Tealgate” the game. In fact, show up at City Market Coffee Roasters on any game day, dressed in your Current gear, and enjoy a discount.
St. Patrick’s Day events
Donutology in River Market is celebrating the weekend with $1 16 oz. Boulevard beer pours plus St. Patrick’s Day and pistachio donuts both Saturday and Sunday. Prairiefire in Overland Park is hosting a St. Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl on March 17 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with eight participating spots.
Barley & Vine in Platte City has a weekend full of events and specials like live music, Irish Coffee, Irish Car Bombs, and $5 Irish beers. Nasstive is putting on a ticketed pub crawl through Westport on Saturday and Sunday. Power and Light is putting on Shamrocks and Shenanigans with a day of food and drink deals ending in a concert from Stolen Winnebagos, DJ Ashton Martin, and S!CK!CK.
Plan Ahead
Kansas City Bier Company: Remember our coverage of Rizoma? Here’s an opportunity to try it out. KC Bier Co is hosting a release party on March 19, starting at 3 p.m., for Rizoma’s Neomexicanus Wit. In addition to the new beer on tap, there will be food specials, live music from Sin Tope, and fundraising for The Latinx Education Collaborative. No tickets or RSVP required.
Voltaire: Voltaire in West Bottoms is partnering with Stockyards Brewing for a Beer Dinner on March 19. This ticketed dinner is $65 per person before tax and gratuity, and includes four courses of British cuisine like mussels, rabbit, carrot cake, and more, each with beer pairings.
Third Place Lounge: Third Place Lounge in Crossroads is hosting a Girl’s Night Out Craft Beer Appreciation night with Big Rip Brewing. For $20 at the door, guests will enjoy a flight of four local beers plus one full pour of their choice, light snacks, and tasting tips. The event is March 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Hey! Hey! Club: The Hey! Hey! Club at J. Rieger & Co. is hosting Please Don’t Tell (or, PDT) on March 20 at 5 p.m. PDT is one of New York City’s most iconic speakeasy bars, and they are bringing their specialty creations here for one special night.
