This week's Kansas City restaurant news.

Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Cliff’s Taphouse: $5 cocktails? What year is it? Cliff’s Taphouse has a new $5 cocktail list available during happy hour–each Tuesday through Friday from 3 – 6 p.m. My first choices would be the cherry limeade or the spicy paloma… but at only $5 each, it sounds like my savings will be spent on a Lyft home!

Opening

The Skyline: On July 11, KC gets a new rooftop bar. The Skyline opens at The Combine, one of my favorite pizza (or sandwich) joints. Perched upon a former Wonder Bread factory, The Skyline will operate Wednesday through Saturday for cocktails and small bites.

July 11

Green Dirt on Oak: As if the Crossroads rooftop experience at Green Dirt on Oak couldn’t get any lovelier. Rhythm on the Roof featuring the Stanton Kessler Quartet returns from 7 – 10 p.m. A $10 deposit per person with the reservation saves you a seat. Alongside a cocktail or glass of wine, it’s now your chance to try the recent award winner, Dirt Lover, on your cheese board.

Tiki Tannin: Kicking off today, through July 13, Tiki Tannin is taking over the Crossroads wine kitchen. Limited-edition drinks and food selections are available, such as sorrel colada, jerk chicken empanadas, pineapple rum cake, and more fresh finds. Reservations are suggested.

July 12

Afterword Tavern & Shelves: A sweet summer treat… but make it cocktails! Afterword in Crossroads is throwing an ice cream social from 12 – 5 p.m. Ice cream-inspired cocktails, all priced at $14 are just part of the draw, though. Afterword is also a bookstore–a dreamy albeit dangerous combo. TBR stack: 1, wallet: 0.

July 13

Gnarly Hussle: Las Primas is popping up at Gnarly Hussle in Raytown for a Columbian/Latin brunch. From 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., stop by for Colombian BEC, Cuban sandwiches, mimosas, and more, to fuel your cool-kid vintage shopping inside.

Plan ahead

City Barrel Brewing: Plant parents, it’s time to expand the fam. City Barrel’s Crossroads location is hosting a plant swap on July 16, and the first 15 to RSVP will receive a free rooted cutting in a special City Barrel can. The event is free, but RSVP is required. Bring your houseplants, garden plants, starts, and seedlings to swap, and have a beery good time.

Servaes Brewing: In Atchison, the birthplace of Amelia Earhart, Servaes Brewing Company is hosting a VIP party in advance of the Concert in the Sky fireworks display on July 19. Ticketholders for Servaes’ event can enjoy indoor restrooms and air conditioning, plus a food voucher and exclusive access to a variety of beers.

The Prospect KC: On July 25, The Prospect KC is throwing a fundraiser gala at Cezanne in downtown Kansas City. This foodie-focused gala has a theme of Fried Chicken & Champagne. Tickets start at $85. Proceeds from the UnGala support The Prospect KC’s mission to feed the community, disrupt cycles of poverty, and empower the next generation through culinary education, food justice, and nutrition literacy.
