Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Burger Week is back! Half-price featured burgers are available at restaurants all over the metro. My tips, though, include checking your chosen spot’s hours before visiting, and tipping on the pre-discount amount. Snap a pic and tag @thepitchkc on Instagram if you love it!

Kanbe’s Markets is expanding to the Northland, and adding nine new store partners this week. The local non-profit organization brings fresh produce to walkable neighborhood locations, and diverts hundreds of thousands of pounds of food from landfills each year. Now more than ever, they’re in need of community support through donations and volunteer hours.

Mean Mule Distilling Co.: Jeff Evans, co-owner of Mean Mule in Crossroads, was killed in an accident over the weekend. Supporters are rallying around his wife and co-owner, Meg, and son with a GoFundMe, and by sharing memories of Evans and Mean Mule with the team. Stop in and order a Michelada in his honor if you want to show your support for the family on your night out.

Opening

Holy Brunch: Holy Brunch has moved from a small location to a large, multi-level spot, but remains in Westport. The breakfast and (shocker) brunch restaurant celebrates the grand opening on July 26 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. I visited the playful eatery just under a year ago, and ordered wings and Fruity Pebble waffles—a fun and unserious menu.

July 25

Cinder Block Brewery: Cinder Block in North Kansas City is celebrating July’s Final Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. with live music from Mark Lomas, $12 Czech pils pitchers, and Jerusalem Cafe food truck popping up on the patio. No tickets or reservations required.

Ruby Jean’s Kitchen & Juicery: Ten years of fresh deserves a major celebration. Ruby Jean’s is throwing a Juice Jamz party from 6 – 10 p.m., and tickets are just $10. The lineup includes live music from The Royal Chief, The Epitome, Kye Colors, and more, plus art, food, and vendors on the patio space.

July 27

Green Dirt on Oak: Do you remember Happy Apple Cafe? Fellow fans of Kendall Harris’s work may already know that Harris is now working pastry magic at Green Dirt on Oak. Well, this weekend at the multi-level Crossroads eatery, it’s Harris’ time to shine! Tickets are available for the special 3 p.m. cheese and confections tasting event for a $10 deposit.

Plan Ahead

Westport Bars: The connected bars in Westport, including Westport Landing, The Patio, Jungalow, and more are throwing an Adam Sandler themed-night on August 1. $2 wells, raffle prizes, and true comfort inspired by Mr. Big Daddy himself. Break out the slouchy shorts, ballcaps, oversized tees or hockey jerseys, and just like that, you’re dressed for a night out.

Muni: On August 4, Muni in River Market is throwing a special wine dinner with Bonded Beverage and Chef Pam Liberda. Tickets start at $135 for a welcome drink and bites, five courses, and wine pairings, all featuring Muni’s signature blend of Mexican and Thai flavors.
