Looking for delicious plans? Whether you want to impress a date, show your fam the best of KC, or just get out of the house, we’ve got you covered… all while supporting (mostly) local.

Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers!

Something new

Goat and Rabbit: The West 39th Street cocktail bar, Goat and Rabbit, has launched a limited edition menu for AANHPI Month. A portion of the proceeds from the thoughtfully designed craft cocktails will benefit Fountain of Life Senior Community Center.  The shareable and carbonated Instant Ramen Punch Bowl looks like fun, but the Peking Manhattan is unlike any cocktail I’ve seen before! The dark amber-colored cocktail uses Chinese Five Spice Duck Fat Washed Bourbon, Shiitake Mushroom Vermouth, and more 13th Century Hangzhou-inspired ingredients.

KCK Taco Trail: Not new, but improved! The KCK Taco Trail pass has been revamped for 2024. Use the free, simple guide to explore 60 local taquerias featuring street tacos, Tex-Mex style tacos, and more.

Nurse and Teacher Appreciation Week: Privee on Southwest Boulevard is offering 50% off this week with an ID badge. North KC’s Cinder Block Brewery is giving teachers and nurses 10% off beer and cider all week while Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop is offering a complimentary order of Crab Rangoons with a dine-in entree purchase for teachers who show a valid ID.

Opening

Third Street Social: The Lee’s Summit and South Plaza eatery has expanded! Third Street Social, now in the northland, is known for its midwestern gourmet menu–think pie, prime rib, chicken pot pie. If you’re looking for inspiration, try the Crispy Fried Brussels & Cauliflower, Heirloom Tomato Pie, and literally any of the dessert pies.

Chillakillers: New to Lenexa Public Market is Chillakillers. Owner and Chef Fernando Borrego has brought his food truck favorites to the Lenexa food hall, specializing in chilaquiles, tortas, flautas, and more. Chillakillers is now open daily.

May 9

Taylor Elizabeth Cake Shop: In East Crossroads, Taylor Elizabeth Cake Shop is hosting a cake decorating class from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost is $65 and includes a personal 6” cake in your choice of six flavors, supplies and instruction, plus refreshments and photo ops. This is the perfect occasion to make a cake for or with mom, or to try a new skill!

May 11

Oddly Correct Coffee: In South Hyde Park, Oddly Correct is hosting Baba’s Pantry for a pop-up benefit. Starting at 11 a.m., Baba’s Pantry will have pastries and fresh staples like hummus, baba ganoush, tahini, and pita chips available. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Ard Alyas, a Palestinian Farmers Cooperative in Safa Villiage.

Summer Brew Fest: Do the one thing that Chiefs players “can’t” do on the field… sample 150 beers! The KC Brew Fest takes over Arrowhead Stadium, featuring over 60 breweries bringing 150 beers, plus lawn games and food. Tickets start at $50, but VIP tickets include early admission and access to the locker room, a VIP lounge, and commemorative glassware.

May 12

SipSteady: The non-alcoholic events and marketing group, SipSteady, is hosting an Alcohol-Free Mother’s Day Picnic at the gorgeous Kansas City Museum lawn. Tickets for two start at $90, and include non-alcoholic wine, flowers, and an alcohol-free environment. The vibe to expect is sundrenched and romantic, but kids are welcome too.

Prairiefire: In south Overland Park, The Concert Truck will entertain guests of Pinstripes, The Brass Onion, and CocoBolos. Patio diners can brunch alongside live classical music from 1 – 2 p.m. at no extra charge to their meals.

Plan ahead

Noka: Fresh isn’t always best, and Noka wants to prove it. On May 15, the Martini Corner restaurant is hosting a first-of-its-kind dinner event. With tickets starting at $150, Chef Amante Domingo has curated a five-course tasting experience to highlight their new Dry-Age Fish Program. The menu will focus on preserved fish and ingredients, and there is an optional cocktail pairing upcharge.

In the Lowest Ferns: To benefit the West 18th Street Fashion Show (held June 8), Nuthera is throwing a High Tea at the West Bottom’s lounge, In the Lowest Ferns, on May 16. Tickets are $50 and include THC cocktails and goodies, music, and the highest fashion in town.

Ombra: On May 19, Ombra in Briarcliff is hosting a new kind of Lit dinner party: a seven-course dinner with pairings all based on themes of beloved and haunting stories. Tickets for dinner are $90, with drink pairings costing extra. $15 of every ticket benefits the Mid-Continent Public Library.
