What does your “perfect day” look like?
Not waking up to an alarm. Enjoying my morning coffee and hanging out with my dog with no plans. I love a day with no plans and just going with the flow of the day. I also love having some time to be creative and try new recipes with my Fiance.
What’s your comfort movie?
The Burbs!
Are you more of an extrovert or an introvert?
Definitely an extrovert, though painting murals is usually a solitary experience that I thoroughly enjoy. So, a little of both.
What does Kansas City need more of?
More unique restaurant experiences with fun menus. There have been a ton of new places that have opened up lately, and I’m absolutely loving it. I love restaurants that provide different cultural experiences. It makes me feel like I’m traveling the world in my own backyard.
How did you first start making art?
Growing up in an artistic household, creativity was ingrained in me from a young age. My mother, who is also an artist, played a pivotal role in nurturing my passion for all things art. As an elementary art teacher for 10 years, I loved watching my students’ lack of inhibition when it came to making art, which I think has also played a huge role in the way I approach things.
What do you enjoy about creating murals over other art forms?
I just love a big canvas and the ability to create something that can be enjoyed by so many. I also love the way I’m able to help transform sterile environments into fun spaces. Painting murals also allows me to meet so many people from different walks of life and to experience different environments.
Which mural did you like working on the most and why?
I would say every new mural I create becomes my new favorite, but to be able to paint murals for the KC Current soccer team was such an incredible opportunity. To be able to work with an organization that is helping to empower women on such a massive scale was something I’ll always be grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in. It’s so fascinating to interact with different business owners and help them bring their brand’s vision to life.
What motivates you to keep creating art?
I feel like I’m living the old adage, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” As cheesy as that sounds, it’s actually true. I feel like I’m so blessed to be able to do something that brings so much joy to myself and to my community on a daily basis.
Who inspires you?
I would say that, above all, it would have to be my Mom. Just having an example of a female artist and entrepreneur making a living doing what she loves is so inspiring.
What do you do when you’re not making art?
I love going on long walks in nature with my dog, Jax. I love going on bike rides and playing tennis, golf, and just about anything that gets me outside.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. There’s an audience for all forms of creativity.
Is there anything else you’d like to say?
I want to express my gratitude to the Kansas City community for their ongoing support of female entrepreneurship. Art has the power to transcend boundaries, and I’m excited to continue contributing to the vibrant artistic landscape of this city. Let’s keep creating, connecting, and inspiring together!
