Before you let those pumpkins rot on your porch until Thanksgiving, consider composting them instead.

As nearly 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins are sent to landfills each year, and a majority of them are thrown away the day after Halloween, KC Can Compost is offering an alternative.

KC Can Compost is a nonprofit organization that seeks to change the city’s social and environmental landscapes by collecting organic waste and diverting it from landfills for composting, in addition to educating and training individuals for success in green industry jobs.

This Saturday, Nov. 4, KC Can Compost will be hosting its second annual Great Pumpkin Rescue event, where you can donate your pumpkins to be composted. The event also doubles as fundraiser, and proceeds will go towards the organization.

Donation prices are as follows, $3 for every two pumpkins and $1 for each additional pumpkin.
