KC bars with 3 a.m. liquor licenses will be grandfathered in

It’s been three weeks since we reported that the city was looking at changing the requirements for bars with 3 a.m. liquor licenses.

All of this was in the name of making late-night-boozing in Kansas City synonymous with tourism areas (exemptions in the proposed resolution allowed 3 a.m. liquor licenses for bars in entertainment districts like the Power & Light District). Small bar owners claimed the changes would put them out of business.

Now, Regulated Industries is saying a compromise has been reached; there will still be changes, but bars with existing 3 a.m. licenses will be grandfathered in and protected.
