- The city could be sticking out its shingle soon.
Sporting KC may have an unexpected competitor, should the local soccer franchise look to acquire a new corporate sponsor for its stadium. The Kansas City Star reports that Kansas City is considering selling naming rights to pieces of city-owned property, such as the ballroom in Bartle Hall.
City Manager Troy Schulte has included a new position in the proposed budget – a sponsor and naming-rights director, who would be responsible for attempting to secure new partnerships for the city. Oscar McCaskey, the city’s director of convention facilities, has lobbied for the new position as a means of creating additional revenue for the city. Should KC sell the naming rights to portions of city-owned properties, and if so, which corporate logos would you want to see adorn the city’s skyline?
