Kansas City police investigating homicide on North Wheeling; second homicide investigation in last two days

Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating yet another homicide. The latest occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police received reports of shots being fired in the 400 block of North Wheeling. Officers found the back door of a home open and the body of a man inside. UPDATE: Authorities say the victim is 27-year-old James Conklin of KCMO.

This is the second homicide investigation in the last two days. On Wednesday around 5 a.m., a man was found inside a house on fire at 41st and Wayne. The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police said the fire was being investigated as an arson, while the man’s death was being looked into by homicide detectives. UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 78-year-old George Graham of Kansas City, Missouri.

If both deaths are declared homicides, the number of homicides so far in KCMO in 2012 will be 37.
