Kansas City police investigating first homicide of 2012

UPDATE: Kansas City police say the victim of the homicide at 71st and Monroe has been identified as 54-year-old Cornell Maxwell of Kansas City, Missouri.
Maxwell’s gold, four-door, 2003 Ford Taturus was believed to have been taken during the homicide. Police are looking for the car, which has license plate number is CE6-A7P with Missouri 2012 tags.
Original Story: Kansas City, Missouri, almost made it 11 days in 2012 without a homicide. Police officers found a man dead inside a home in the 7100 block of Monroe around 6:31 p.m. Officers were checking on a man who hadn’t been heard from for several days.
Officers found the man — described as a black male in his 50s — dead inside the home. Police are investigating the death of the yet-to-be-named man as a homicide. However, the cause of death isn’t being released.

At this time last year, KCMO already had two homicides. There were four homicides by January 10 in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
