Kansas City police explain why they ticketed you for leaving your car running in your driveway
If you’re pissed about getting a ticket for leaving your car idling in your driveway, there’s a reason for it. The police are probably sick of having to track down stolen cars when there are so many other crimes in this city (see Killa City).
The Kansas City Police Department’s latest “Why We
Do What We Do” attempts to explain, because we’re living in Siberia at the moment, and a warm car seems like a good idea. Sgt. Danny Graves explains that 1-in-5 cars left running is stolen (and in 2010, 204 cars were stolen in Shoal Creek). So he says to expect some enforcement. But it’s an “officer discretion.” Maybe the automatic starter wasn’t a good Christmas present after all.
