Kansas City, Missouri’s homicide total hits 18 for 2012 … for now

  • Roger Chandler allegedly watched TV while his girlfriend died.

Even by Kansas City’s standards, this weekend was an especially violent and deadly one. E-mails announcing homicides kept coming from the Kansas City Police Department’s public information officers.

It all started around 10:22 a.m. Friday. Roger Chandler, 54, allegedly killed his girlfriend, 51-year-old Gwendolyn Pahmeyer. Jackson County prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder.

Chandler told detectives that he and Pahmeyer were day drinking (he’d downed about two-thirds of a half-gallon of whiskey). He told police that he struck Pahmeyer two or three times in the torso as they laid in bed. He told police that he stopped hitting her once he “got her attention.” He left the bedroom to watch TV in another room. He came back to check on her and noticed blood gushing out of her mouth when he moved her head. Pahmeyer also made “a grunting noise.” Chandler didn’t call police; he watched more TV. He finally called 911 when he noticed Pahmeyer was cold and unresponsive.

Unfortunately, more after the jump.
