Kansas City Chiefs won’t rule out Matt Cassel for Sunday … but c’mon

I’ll be shocked if Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel trots onto the field Sunday against San Diego. If he does, it’ll be a stupid, short-sighted and unnecessary risk by head coach Todd Haley, sacrificing winning now versus winning later. It’ll also show that Haley has zero confidence in backup Brodie Croyle.

Cassel didn’t practice yesterday, and hell, he’s not practicing today. I’d call him a pussy since the recovery time from laparoscopic surgery is usually faster (but not that fast), but he did just have an organ removed on Wednesday morning and I have zero interest in seeing his guts spilled onto any field. So he gets a rare pass. The fact that there’s even a question of whether Cassel might give it a go is astonishing.
