Juliana Hatfield

Juliana Hatfield‘s How to Walk Away is a hummable bummer of a record — all about finally accepting the realization that it’s time to break up and probably has been for a while. She’ll always sound like the indie girl next door, on whom so many freshman guys had a crush back when “My Sister” and “Universal Heartbeat” were all over the airwaves of Alternative Nation. But these days, there’s a matter-of-fact air of resignation in her voice — just another reminder that no matter how old you get, growing up sucks. But a warning to any ex-frosh out there keeping the dream alive: If she is in fact single, please don’t take any of this to mean you’ve got a shot. She’s still way too cool for you.
