Joseph Hendrix’s sentence reduced in the killing of Michael Tutera
Joseph Hendrix won’t be serving the same sentence as his brother after all in the slaying of Kansas City businessman Michael Tutera. Joseph Hendrix didn’t pull the trigger. His brother, Matthew Hendrix, did.
Joseph Hendrix did pay his older brother an extra $20 from money stolen during Tutera’s murder. The 17-year-old pleaded guilty in January. A judge sentenced him in March to 25 years for second-degree murder, 15 years for first-degree burglary and 10 years for armed criminal action. The sentences were to run concurrently. But the judge had second thoughts.
