Jonathan Broxton will only be a spectator at the All-Star Game

The Kansas City Royals will again only have a single representative at the All-Star Game. Royals closer Jonathan Broxton finished fourth in the Final Vote — the online popularity contest (Twitter hashtags were counted as votes) used to determine which of five candidates will make it on the All-Star roster (last year Alex Gordon finished third in the voting). Rangers’ starter Yu Darvish earned the nod in his first major league season.

Broxton, twice an All-Star as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is 1-1 with a 2.05 ERA and 20 saves (good enough for fourth in the American League) on the season in what is proving to be one of the better free-agent signings by general manager Dayton Moore. Broxton would have been a worthy representative alongside Billy Butler, who will likely follow David Ortiz as the second designated hitter to come to the plate on Tuesday.
