Joan As Police Woman croons at RecordBar tonight

Her pedigree is formidable, her musicianship is impeccable, and her NPR-friendly accessible pop is achingly beautiful. So what has kept Joan Wasser — better known as Joan As Police woman — from basking in the stardom of such like-minded artists as St. Vincent and Feist? After all, Wasser’s former collaborators include Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed and Elton John, and Wasser was part of the crew that spawned Antony and the Johnsons’ renowned album, I Am a Bird Now. (Wasser has commented in various interviews that crafting the 1999 album may have “saved her life” after the death of her boyfriend, Jeff Buckley, in 1997.)
