Jimmy Pozin
It may have been my imagination, but I swear this disc made a farting sound as I slid it into the CD player. If that were the only sound this recording made, it would be all right. Unfortunately, there are other noises on it — noises, possibly intended to be songs, that sound more like the creations of a blabbermouthed, sugar-tripping third-grader going to town on some keyboards and guitarsin the back of a pawn shop. Sadly, Jimmy Pozin is not in pull-ups (we assume); instead, he is a 20-year-old Olathe resident whose family, friends, neighbors, pets and own eardrums I feel very sorry for. Sometimes funny songs that sound like shit are cool — the albums of Ween come to mind. But Pozin’s heaps of sonic scat are just a bunch of ear-shattering idiocy. Then again, Pozin may just be ahead of his time. If so, please kill me before his era arrives. The layered, jibbering vocals on album opener “Mailbox,” if uttered by real children, would be grounds for smothering them in their beds, and the junk-acoustic rumination “Toothpicks Are Good and Useful” calls for a John Belushi-in-Animal House-style guitar smash. And those are the better tracks.
