Jessica, 24, at Lovely Skateboards’ Lowrider Show

by NADIA PFLAUM
Last weekend’s low-rider show in the West Bottoms was all booming bass, high-hopping grills, hittin’-switches and squealing tires. In the middle of it all was Jessica, looking like an oasis of vintage fashion.
“I like to mix a lot of prints,” she says of her personal aesthetic. “I like 40s and 50s dresses, and I wear a lot of aprons. Kind of housewife-y? But also with a pin-up, sailor thing mixed in.”
I told Jessica that I loved her angular glasses, and before I could say another word, she whipped out her cell phone to show me a picture of the Pair That Got Away. They had turquoise frames with bronze and burnt-orange metal horn rims, and they cost only $12 before she had her prescription put into them. But then she lost them at a bar.
Bars have a knack for swallowing up the most precious, one-of-a-kind items — like a blue velvet coat I still mourn even though it disappeared more than two years ago. Maybe the person who is wearing my coat has on Jessica’s glasses? She’d be one stylish bitch.
