Current neighborhood: Fairway
What I do: At Spotlight, it is my goal to create and sustain meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships between our clients and industry analysts.
What’s your addiction? Hot sauce from Limestone Pizza in Lawrence; HGTV
What’s your game? One of my friends, Jon Cheese McKesten, created a game called Hidden in Plain Sight. Person A hides 12 to 20 of the same item (playing cards, dominoes, coins, etc.) in a room or space, and at least part of the item has to be seen unobstructed. Person (or persons) B then has to find the items. It’s a very simple concept, but much harder than expected, and always ends up being a fun time.
What’s your drink? I’ve been enjoying Vinho Verde this summer. It is a little effervescent, which is refreshing on these hot days.
Where’s dinner? During the week, Taco Republic and Avelluto’s Italian Delight are family favorites. On the weekends, Gram & Dun, Port Fonda and the Rieger.
What’s on your KC postcard? I love the view of downtown KC including a shot of the Scout.
Finish these sentences: “Kansas City got it right when …” We were the first city to get Google Fiber. It has been really good for the tech and startup community.
“Kansas City screwed up when …” We vote Kansas vs. Missouri. We should all be more like the Kansas City Area Development Council and focus on bettering Kansas City as a region (both sides of the state line).
“Kansas City needs …” A good deli that serves chocolate phosphates.
“As a kid, I wanted to be …” A marine biologist. Or a rock star.
“I always laugh at …” My husband’s jokes, especially when everyone else thinks he’s being serious.
“I’ve been known to binge watch …” The Americans.
“I can’t stop listening to …” Pinkerton and the blue album. My husband, brother, sister-in-law and I went to the Weezer show at Starlight in June, and it reignited my love for Weezer’s first two albums.
“My dream concert lineup is …” Hum and Radiohead
“I just read …” The Game of Thrones series. I’m looking forward to starting something else soon, perhaps The Martian.
What’s your hidden talent? I whistle very well. I don’t think my co-workers would say it’s hidden, though.
What’s your guiltiest pleasure? Murray’s Ice Cream
The best advice I ever got: When you know, you know.
Worst advice? Wait until after 11 a.m. to eat lunch.
My sidekick? My daughter and I have a great time together.
What is your spirit animal? Well, according to two different “What’s your spirit animal” quizzes I just found online, mine is a bear.
Who is your hero? There are many women in Kansas City who I would put in this category. One in particular is Jill McCarthy from the KCADC. She does an incredible job connecting women at her networking events. Everyone who attends follows Jill’s lead in building each other up and helping where they can. I think this is a unique quality to Kansas City, and I try to bring what I’ve learned from her to our culture at Spotlight.
Who (or what) is your nemesis? Time. I have so many things I want to do, but only so many hours in the day.
What’s your greatest struggle right now? Work-life balance
My favorite toy as a child: My keyboard
My dating triumph/tragedy? Going on a first date at Cork Wine Bar in Washington, D.C., with my now-husband.
My brush with fame: I was trying to buy sunglasses while shopping with my sister-in-law in L.A. Hilary Swank walked in, and the person who had been helping me left me high and dry (with money in hand) to go help Ms. Swank.
My soapbox: Now that I’m raising a daughter, I’m even more aware of girls and women and how they are treated/treat each other. I think it’s incredibly important for women to support each other. Especially in the tech and startup community.
My recent triumph: I survived a trip to IKEA (barely).
