Jeff Dunham Sticker on a Cadillac

Yeah, yeah, we know there are no class distinctions in America. When the dumps are piled with both discarded Truck Nutz and the rusting husks of castoff Lexus vehicles, it’s apparent that Americans from across the economic spectrum are united in their consumerist approach to civilization. Combining found objects with resin, polyester, crafting supplies and melted plastic, Kansas City Art Institute senior Tiffane Friesen creates troubling mixed-media sculptures that brood on the ephemera of mass consumerism. Classmate Amy Compton makes mixed-media paintings displaying her skill with oil paint and her training in fiber surface design. The artists are on hand at the Mod Gallery (1809 McGee) for tonight’s opening reception (6 p.m. to midnight) of Politely Incorrect: Champagne and Malt Liquor, a collaborative exhibit of work centered on an exploration of American consumers’ favorite excesses.
