J.C. Nichols and Women’s Leadership Fountain damaged by thieves, will cost $85,000 to repair

Is there a lower class of thief than a copper thief? The Star reported this morning that two of Kansas City’s iconic fountains were damaged by thieves overnight. And it’s going to cost the city $85,000 to repair.
About $25,000 worth of lights were stolen from the J.C. Nichols Fountain and the Women’s Leadership Fountain, which also suffered about $60,000 in concrete damage. Superintendent of Parks Forest Decker told the Star that he believed the thieves were after aluminum, copper or bronze fittings on the lights. Thanks a lot, dicks.
