Jazz Beat: Steve Lambert and Ryan Thielman, at Green Lady Lounge

If you want to talk about the best of Kansas City’s new generation of jazz musicians, you’ll have to include saxophonist and flutist Steve Lambert and trumpeter Ryan Thielman, whose tight solos are marked by imagination and invention. Over Christmas weekend, Green Lady Lounge offers four chances to hear them together. Christmas Eve, they’re joined by drummer John Kizilarmut and organist-pianist Desmond Mason. The same group gathers again for the early show Christmas night, and is joined by bassist DeAndre Manning for the late show. Sunday night, the pair leads the Foundation 627 Big Band, and tunes will run the gamut — from Christmas songs to jazz standards and originals.
