Conrad Herwig’s trombone is heard on more than 200 recordings, backing performers as diverse as Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra. He was part of Joe Lovano’s Grammy Award-winning Nonet, and he has been voted best jazz trombonist three times in DownBeat‘s Jazz Critics Poll. Bringing a sophisticated exuberance that bounds through his bold trombone lines, he is the jazz headliner Saturday at Kansas City’s 18th & Vine Jazz & Blues Festival. Also on the main stage, behind the jazz museum: blues headliner Popa Chubby, whose electric guitar weaves rock and blues with a hint of hip-hop; soul singer Dwele, as the R&B headliner; and Party Band headliner the Family Stone. Acts on the festival’s other stages range from Ida McBeth to John Paul & the Hellhounds.
