Jason Kander belittles Kris Kobach, who is rumored for post in Trump cabinet

Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, who ran a stout race against U.S. Sen Roy Blunt, leaves office in January. But he’s making it clear that he intends to remain active in state and national politics.

First, Kander, a Democrat, posted a feisty message after coming within three percentage points of unseating Blunt. More than a requisite thank-you-for-your-support, Kander encouraged the people who worked and voted for him to stay active and true to their beliefs.

We fought for smart environmental policies, for unions, for LGBT equality, for commonsense gun safety, and a host of other important causes. I’m proud that we didn’t back down and that we demonstrated that the most important thing Democrats can do is make their argument.

On Sunday, Kander posted a message on Twitter in reaction to Donald Trump naming Stephen Bannon to a senior White House post. Kander reacted to a tweet quoting Bannon’s ex-wife, who in 2007 swore in court that Bannon did not want his daughters going to school with Jews. Kander, who is Jewish, said the comments were disqualifying.

On Tuesday, with rumors circulating that Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach was being considered for the position of attorney general in Donald Trump’s administration, Kander returned to Twitter to share a story.

Kander related an instance in which he went “toe to toe” with Kobach at a national meeting of secretaries of state. Kander says he challenged Kobach for offering a resolution that Kander felt was overly partisan. The story ends deliciously, with Kobach losing a vote on the resolution after leaving the meeting to “catch a flight to one of his paid consulting gigs.”
