Janelle Monáe not coming to KC’s new jazz festival

File under: true, too good to be.
Janelle Monáe, the reported headliner for May’s new Kansas City Jazz and Heritage Festival, is not playing that event.
Following the American Jazz Museum’s announcement this morning of the festival’s bill, Monáe took to social media to counter that her booking was an “alternative fact.”
So there were probably a lot of ringing phones at 18th and Vine today, not to say buzzing cell phones on whatever exotic planet Monáe calls home. And now there is disappointment all over.
A press release from the museum went out shortly ago. This is what it says, in its entirety:
Janelle Monae Mistakenly Announced for KC Jazz and Heritage Festival.
All-Star line-up still features: Brandy, John Scofield, Regina Carter, and the Hot Sardines
This morning we were very proud to announce the Kansas City Jazz and Heritage Festival. Unfortunately, we must retract the statement of Janelle Monae performing at the Jazz Festival. Janelle was not confirmed for the event and was incorrectly advertised. The American Jazz Museum sincerely apologize to Ms. Monae, her Fans, and our media partners.
We are very excited of the confirmed award winning all-star line-up for the festival including Brandy, John Scofield, Regina Carter, and The Hot Sardines.
The museum is working to secure another major headliner. It is the Museum’s hope to announce the new headliner in the next 3 weeks.
