Two big, much-anticipated openings today. In the East Bottoms, the new J. Rieger and Co. Distillery at 2700 Guinotte makes its debut. This massive expansion greatly increases the distilling capacity of J. Rieger and Co. and also includes two bars. The Monarch Lounge is a casual, day-to-night, coffee-to-cocktails spot with a view overlooking the distillery floor. The Hey! Hey! Club is the showpiece bar, fashioned in the style of a jazz club (its name is a nod to the historic Hey! Hey! Club at 18th and Vine). There are lots of other amenities too, from an historic exhibit to a giant slide that runs from the second to the first floor.
And on the Westside, chef Vaughn Good’s Fox and Pearl opens in its new location at 2143 Summit Street. Good and his partner and wife, Kristine Hull, have been familiars on the scene since Good opened Hank Charcuterie in Lawrence about four years ago. Good and Hull’s new spot has a ton of potential: Fox & Pearl features Good’s reliable protein-centric dishes, pickles and fresh pastas, as well as a beautifully remodeled space, an open hearth in the kitchen, a curing room, a large and beautiful patio, and solid management, including Richard Garcia as GM and Katy Wade as bar manager.
Saturday, July 13
