Incoming: The Max Floyd Celebrity Roast at the Uptown, January 30

Up until January of 2008, Max Floyd had been on the air in Kansas City for over 30 years. He started with KY102 when the station launched in 1974, and managed to stick with KYYS even after an overnight format switch resulted in the whole on-air team moving to 99.7 in 1997.
Then, in 2008, 99.7KY became “The Boulevard,” and Max Floyd was off the Kansas City airwaves. 34 years of nearly uninterrupted airtime, and gone without so much as a by-your-leave.
Floyd will, however, get his day on Saturday, January 30 at the Uptown Theater. Friends and colleagues will pay tribute the “Rock ‘n’ Roll General” by ripping him apart. It should be hilarious, and if you grew up on Kansas City rock ‘n’ roll radio like I did, you owe it to yourself to attend this. As an added bonus, KC legends Shooting Star will perform following the roast.
You can watch an interview with Floyd at the KSHB website to get yourself a short primer on Floyd’s career.
