Incoming: The Game to the Granada

Jayceon Terrell Taylor, who goes by the Game when he’s laying down iron-hard verse over tough, angry beats, is coming to the Granada in Lawrence on April 4. I guess this was announced a while ago, but I just found out. Heck yeah!

Game’s 2008 release, LAX, was highly acclaimed, but I’m more a fan of his previous work, such as this cut from his 2006 release Doctor’s Advocate, which is uniformly and thankfully unmarred by Lil Wayne’s damn robot croak or Ne-Yo or any of those other sidecar-riding overserious featured bloody R&B-style singers all over LAX and every other mainstream rap album from last year. It’s a trend we have to tolerate, I guess. But in this song, “It’s Okay (One Blood),” there’s only a cool old reggae guy singing hooks.

Tickets for the show are $25. Kutt Calhoun opens.
