Incoming: The Church, Adam Franklin to VooDoo Lounge

Just announced: world-renowned Australian pop band the Church is coming to the VooDoo Lounge on June 19, with support from former Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin. Nostalgia may be the pull for some people going to this show, but this posse has a slew of new releases out.

In addition to rolling out two new EPs this past march (Pangaea and Coffee House), the Church is releasing its 23rd album, Untitled #23, on May 12. Two members of the band have solo projects out, too. Church singer, bassist and lyricist Steve Kilbey released Painkiller, his ninth solo album, last November. Not to be outdone, Church guitarist Marty Willson-Piper just dropped his eighth solo record (and first in eight years), Nightjar, this past March. If all that doesn’t make you feel lazy, then your name must be Ryan Adams.

Franklin ain’t no slugabed neither. His second release under his own name, Spent Bullets, also came out last month, also on the Church’s and Willson-Piper’s and Kilbey’s (oh my!) label, Second Motion Records. Additionally, he’s got a band with Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino called Magnetic Morning that hit the road last year with our very own Life and Times as guests. Does Magnetic Morning, too, have an album out? Do drunk drivers swerve? A full-length and an EP are both available here.
