Incoming: Mumford & Sons

This band wrenches my heart into teeny, tiny, itty-bitty pieces. English folkies Mumford & Sons are like the Avett Brothers, Langhorne Slim and Frightened Rabbit funneled into one beautifully rendered fusion of rich, throbbing harmonies, plucky banjo and lovingly-rendered piano balladry. And it’s also probably going to be one of the best small-scale shows you’ll catch in this town this summer. (Just check out their cover of the Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers” and “Carry That Weight.”) They’re selling out shows across Europe and their single below, “Little Lion Man,” is shining on the Australian charts. Kansas City, keep an eye and an ear out for Mumford & Sons’ arrival. These dudes are gonna rattle the Record Bar’s ceiling tiles on June 16, and probably break a few hearts, too.
