Incoming: Kristen Schaal and the Blanks at the Lied Center, October 6

Want to find out about shows you will never hear advertised anywhere? Check out the websites for any college near you, and find out where the campus activities groups post their events. You’ll discover shows you never knew existed.

Case in point: if you go to KU’s Student Union Activities site, you’ll see that coming to the Lied Center on October 6 is SUA’s Annual Homecoming Comedy Show: Kristen Schaal and The Blanks. Kristen Schaal is best known as Mel from Flight of the Conchords, and is by all accounts a stellar stand-up comedienne. The Blanks are also known as the Worthless Peons or Ted’s Band from Scrubs.

Yes, the Blanks are a real group with a website and CD (entitled Riding the Wave — it even has its own Wiki page) and everything. Yes, they do the theme song to Charles In Charge, and it’s streaming on their homepage.

This has the potential to be the geekiest show ever. However, tickets have yet to go on sale, and they’re offered to KU students and their families first (homecoming week and all), and the general public afterward, and at a higher cost. Best of luck if you want to catch this. Otherwise, you’re stuck with watching Comedy Central and HBO for re-runs.
