Incoming: Fang at the Jackpot, December 12

Fang is a band that’s probably better-known for the fact that their frontman Sammytown (formerly Sam McBride) spent six years in prison than anything they’ve actually recorded.
Now, that’s not to say that Fang doesn’t deserve the “punk legends” tag they’ve got on that flier. “The Money Will Roll Right In” off their debut LP Landshark is a classic, covered by the likes of Nirvana and Mudhoney. They had a song on Not So Quiet on the Western Front, which is one of those classic comps from the early ’80s, right alongside other collections like Let Then Eat Jellybeans, Nardcore and Somebody’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In.
This show is just about the perfect storm of punk rock awesomeness. You’ve got early ’80s punk rock with Fang, the recently reformed Sex Offenders repping the ’90s, the Hopeless Destroyers being the current band, and Dirty Dawgs 101 bridging the gap from ’80s to now.
This show got moved from a loft in KC to the Jackpot, so if you were planning on seeing it there, you might want to allow a little drive time. It’s only $5, and has to be over by 10 p.m., so you could still make it back to Kansas City in time to catch another show. It’s the sort of show that’s worth the mileage.
