Incoming: Dead to Me at the Jackpot, March 8

Back in the late ’90s, it seemed like One Man Army was coming through Lawrence every six months. I know for a fact that, between 1998 and 2000, I probably saw them four times. They were touring warhorses who were tighter than a drum, and it never failed that they’d nearly upstage the headliner for whatever show they were opening.

When Dead to Me formed out of the ashes of One Man Army with Jack Dalrymple and Brandon Pollack back in 2006, I was thrilled, as were many others. And when I heard that Dead to Me was coming through Lawrence on March 8, as the band makes their way down to the Harvest of Hope Festival in Florida, I was even happier.

Of course, Pollack isn’t in the band anymore, and Dalrymple is taking time off to raise his infant son, so we’re getting the three-piece version of the group, who are touring in support of last year’s African Elephants on Fat Wreck. On a more positive note, while we’re getting the non-One Man Army version of Dead to Me, we get Cobra Skulls as the opening act, which certainly takes a lot of the sting out.

The show is all ages, and starts at 8:00 p.m. It’s $8 for 21 and up, and $10 for the under-21 set.
