Incoming: American Idol reject Von Smith this Saturday night in Lee’s Summit

This Saturday night, Lee’s Summit rasta-throwback bar and grill, Braata (pronounced “braaah-tahhh,” brah) will host American Idol contender and YouTube harlot Von Smith.

This information, brought to my attention via e-mail, says the Greenwood native is making a special appearance to promote his upcoming shows at John Knox Pavilion on July 24th and 25th*.

The cheese spreads around 8 p.m. when Von Smith sings a few tunes in between sets from  Lazell Williams on steel drums and the Clint Martinez Trio.

The restaurant is capitalizing on the action by filming a commercial, in which attendees are invited to participate. Braata, by the way, in Jamaican patois, means “a little extra.”

(*Neither of these concerts were listed on the John Knox Pavilion website and phone calls to the venue made a 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. were forwarded to voicemail. Perhaps it was dinnertime.)
