Incoming: A Place to Bury Strangers at the Bottleneck, April 10

I’ve seen A Place to Bury Strangers three or four times now. They are the only band in recent history for whom wearing earplugs is an absolute necessity. I’m aware that, as a music journalist, I get exposed to way more decibels than is healthy for the enduring health of my ears.
However, APTBS is fucking loud. As in, “I think they may be doing damage to my nervous system” loud. Thus, if you want to be able to hear something other than thirty seconds of guitar, followed by a three days of persistent buzzing in your ears, wear earplugs for this show at the Bottleneck on Saturday, April 10. Plus, you’ll be able to actually make out the crazy dissonant rock stylings of the former Smell denizens.
Also on the bill are super-hype the Big Pink, whose album A Brief History of Love made all sorts of year-end lists, including an honorable mention on Pitchfork’s “Albums of the Year.”
