In Case You Missed It

HEARTWARMING

This week, C.J. Janovy checked in with author and formerly homeless cab driver Richard G. Tripp, who’s published Please Underestimate Me — The Blood, Guts, and Soul Of Richard G Tripp.

CREEPY

Why do serial killers and child molesters like cosplay so much? Justin Kendall doesn’t really explore that issue too deeply, because thinking about it makes you want to take a shower, using up precious water from the already-depleted Ogallala aquifer and is therefore actually harmful to the environment. Take only photographs, leave only footprints, is our motto. But if you have theories, we’ll entertain them.

RAPE WHISTLE

Crystal K. Wiebe thought the cast of the Sweeney Todd production at the Music Hall was talented, but the show was somewhat undermined by the high-decibel electronic shriek that accompanies each murder, with which the director has chosen to damage the hearing of the audience. It calls to mind last year’s KC Repertoire production of A Raisin in the Sun, in which each audience member was punched in the stomach on the way into the theater.

ELSEWHERE

Jason Harper looked at Kansas City coverage in other papers.

ELECTRIFYING!

Scott Wilson’s absolutely had it with movie critic quote whores.

On the Wayward Blog, Jason Harper and his Wayward Blog Blue Blaze Irregulars looked at Hannah Montana’s alleged use of lip-synch body doubles in concert; Paul Malinowski offered up an exclusive track; and Ha Ha Tonka sang a couple of songs.
