If you rob a bank, don’t use the company van as the getaway car
| Surveillance cameras captured footage of Mark McAvinew allegedly robbing a bank, leading McAvinew’s wife to turn him in to police. |
Kansas City man Mark McAvinew, 52, has been charged in a criminal complaint with stealing $3,170 from Metcalf Bank on December 29, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri.
Court records allege that McAvinew entered the Metcalf Bank at 9740 Wornall Road at 11:11 a.m., approached a bank employee at the customer service desk, demanded she give him all the $50 and $100 bills, and gave her a small empty nylon bag. The employee then went to a teller station and started putting money in the bag. While she filled the bag, McAvinew also allegedly requested $20 bills.
When the bank employee finished, McAvinew allegedly took the bag and left the bank. Surveillance footage captured McAvinew walking to a white van bearing the insignia of A.M. Heating and Cooling, which McAvinew is part owner.
McAvinew was later identified on the footage by his business partner and his wife, who called the TIPS Hotline to report him as the robber when she recognized his picture in news stories.
