I’ll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap.””Looks like beer, Norm.””Call me Mr. Lucky.” George Wendt, the actor who portrayed high-functioning alcoholic Norm Peterson on the long-running NBC sitcom Cheers, comes to Kansas City — home of his alma mater, Rockhurst University — to host the finals for the KC Superstar contest. Talented high-schoolers, who have immense vocal ranges (and who maybe do that thing where they point to each note in the air as they sing it), compete for the $5,000 grand prize in the American Idol-style contest. The
7 p.m. finals take place at Johnson County Community College’s Carlsen Center (12345 College Boulevard in Overland Park). Admission is free with a suggested donation of two cans of food for Harvesters.— Chris Packham
