Ice Race

Spectators picture themselves as participants in spectator sports. What baseball fan doesn’t recall Little League memories when watching a Royals game? What scratch golfer doesn’t fantasize about being in a pro golfer’s pants (or, in Tiger Woods’ case, the pants of a Vegas “party planner”). So it goes at 7:30 p.m. today and Sunday as fans witness Extreme Ice Racing at the Independence Events Center (19100 East Valley View Parkway). Sure, most people are not crazy enough to voluntarily drive a speedway bike or quad on an ice sheet. Everyone, however, commutes to work when the salt trucks aren’t out in time or tries to get out of an apartment complex when the property owner is too cheap to clear the roads after a snowfall. Instead of cursing the local weather forecasters, pay $17 to $25 ($10 for children) to watch professionals navigate the ice. Call 816-795-7577.
