he newest local addition to the promising breed of heavy bands with vocalists who can sing as well as scream (see Staind, Full Devil Jacket, Life of Agony), Hydro delivers a well-produced debut that showcases Jonathan Collichio’s impressive pipes alongside an aggressive, two-ax attack. “Little One,” the album’s strongest track, moves from an arty guitar intro to a choppy rock climax, peppered with slap bass and drum rolls. The next two offerings move over to the rap/metal side of the spectrum, complete with the requisite scratching and confrontational lyrics (rip your heart out and feed it to you). A relatively young group, Hydro already boasts a thoroughly professional stage show, complete with intricate lighting, and thanks to Collichio’s versatile vocals, this group stands a good chance of succeeding even if interest in rap/metal phases out in the near future.
